Digital delights and productivity heights with PaperCut 19.0

Major releases have always been a big deal at PaperCut.

Whether it’s 17.0 making moves with Mobility Print, or 18.0 jazzing things up with Job Ticketing, we’re big on making our “dot-oh” releases a bit more “dot-ohmygoodness.”

And 19.0 is no exception.

This time, we’re putting both feet firmly in the digital sphere to support customers on their digital transformation journeys, and help them become more productive than ever.

19.0 digitally transforms

Checked out the film-clip above? Then you’ve probably figured out we’re getting downright digital with 19.0.

With the move to a more digital world upon us, we believe the physical document needs to get back to its more useful digital roots.

Customers need an easy way to manage scanning across their entire device fleet; and that means a simple way to scan a document, send it to a destination (email, local folder, or the cloud), and use the info inside.

More cloud storage connectors

With the recent release of Evernote and pCloud support, we have the most comprehensive and impressive list of Scan to Cloud connectors around.

But scanning something’s just the half of it, so we’re going even further.

OCR in the cloud

We’re making documents a million times more useful with OCR (optical character recognition).

OCR lets users search (and even modify) text in scanned documents on the fly. Goodbye soft copies sittin’ around doing nada; hello eager copies flush with instant info.

The cherry on top? It’s all in the cloud and baked right in to PaperCut MF. So you can use it whenever that singular OCR mood strikes – no third-party apps needed.

Regional data centres

To support OCR and our other cloud services (like Scan to Cloud Storage), we’ve opened new data hosting centers in Australia and Germany to complement our American sites.

So if you’re located in these regions and have some strict rules around local hosting, you’ll have no problems using our cloud features.

Not ready for the cloud? You can get OCR in an on-premise deployment option.

19.0 pumps up productivity

Good print management doesn’t just manage; it streamlines too. So on top of getting digital, we’ve gone ahead and made some massive time and hassle-saving enhancements.

Account selection at the device

You can now select the account you want to charge to right at the device, no matter what device you used to submit the job.

That means no extra steps for smartphone users, no more trudging back to computers, and no need to roll out the PaperCut desktop client across every laptop.

It’s especially exciting for mobile workforces using Mobility Print, as they can now print and charge to individual accounts/clients via one quick and easy workflow.

We’ll soon have a page up where you can check if your device is compatible with this feature, so stay tuned.

Mobility Print in DNS-less setups coming soon

That’s right, we’ve gone DNS-less so you can go in confidence knowing Mobility Print is perfect for all configurations – all while reducing your IT support load during installation.

Choose between mDNS for simple networks, DNS-SD for large networks with multi subnets, and now: an option for networks where DNS config isn’t viable. Awesome.

We’ll be releasing it soon as part of continual deployment, so stay tuned.

19.0 enhances embeddeds

We’ve made some killer improvements to Sharp devices on the OSA platform running n2.0+ HTML Browsers.

Here’s what your shiny new Sharp experience includes:

The latest UI

Sharp OSA users can now get around a modern and intuitive interface as good as PaperCut gets on any device.

Change print job settings at the device

Too many copies? No biggie: Sharp OSA users can now change settings/fix errors they’ve made when requesting a job – right at the device.

Sysadmins can also decide exactly what settings can be changed (no gaming of quotas by sneaky students), and businesses can celebrate more savings with fewer print do-overs.

Integrated scanning and Scan to Cloud Storage

We’ve added Integrated Scanning to Sharp OSA devices, including scanning directly to popular cloud destinations (listed above) – all via a simple tap-and-scan workflow.

So there you have it! The latest and most digitally delicious release yet. We can’t wait to hear what you think.
